Chang was once a feared
and violent criminal in Korea. He was spotted by Kim
Kaphwan from a prison's surveillance footage and he wanted to use Chang's
strength "for justice". Though Chang easily broke out of prison, he
was caught by Kim and forced to undergo Kim's "Rehabilitation project"
in KOF. During this time, he befriends a fellow convict who was also caught by
Kim, Choi Bounge. Together, they initially schemed for
ways of escape but they eventually mellow out and enjoy their companions'
company -with protests saying otherwise. Because both him and Choi convinced Kim
to join the Garou Team in The King of Fighters XI, they appear in the
Garou Team's ending celebrating with them at the PaoPao Cafe.

Chang
is probably my least favorite SNK character of all time, besides
Choi of course. To call Chang a convincing retard is an
understatement, and I'm
not even talking about his good looks. The way he acts, sounds, and fights
is distinctively retarded. Visually, he's nothing
more than poor man's Zangief who just ate
an entire McDonald's restaurant. I also never liked how the chain of his weapon
is visible when he swings it during his special move... and how players have to
"use their imagination" to see it. lol. ^o^
Besides being an obviously "differently shaped" character in the KOF
series, I just don't see the appeal behind this design. I mean seriously, who
has a poster of Chang hanging in their room? (And if anyone did, I think it'd be
time to worry about them). lol. On a side note, the random "Smart Chang"
alternate striker design (from KOF 2000) is actually kinda
cool. On that note, I think it'd be pretty cool if they developed that
design, with Chang finally cleaning up his life, losing all that weight, and
finally becoming "cool"... but until that day, Chang's TFG rating will
stay pathetically low. lol.
