Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[st]

PREVIEW
The latest arcade update to Under Night In-Birth originally released in May 2015, resulting in one of the most absurdly named fighting games in recent times... Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[st]. It's also a bitch to type, and I'm not sure I've ever managed to type it once without having to hit backspace. If you're lucky enough not to work on a gaming website and don't have to type out this game's full name, you can conveniently dub the game "UNIST"... I envy you. Anyhow, the
"latest" version of Under Night In-Birth will offer quite a bit of new content over the original 2014-2015 port for Playstation 3.

UNIEL's roster grows to 20... Looking forward to trying the newcomers!

The all new Chronicle mode will unravel the mystery behind the events and characters of the mysterious "Hollow Night". Other new single-player modes include practical combat missions and a Tutorial mode to help new players learn the gameplay and combo systems. The updated roster now features 20 playable characters, including 4 newcomers: Phonon, Mika, Enkidu and Wagner. All of the classic console modes like Arcade, Practice, Gallery, etc. will return.

Enkidu might be a descendant of Geese Howard. He looks pretty cool.

Dust off that old PS3 fightstick, because Aksys Games confirmed that Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[st] will include support for most legacy controllers for the new Playstation 4 version. UNIST will also feature cross-play support, allowing PS4 and PS3 players to fight against one another. UNIST will be coming out on PS Vita in addition to PS4/PS3, but the portable version will not feature cross-play.

Traning Mode & MIssions should help you learn the ropes.

BOTTOM LINE

Final Words: I enjoyed the PS3 version of Under Night In-Birth... which is saying a lot, since I'm not usually a huge fan of similar anime-style fighting games. As I stated in my original review of Under Night In-Birth, this one's different. The pace of UNIEL's gameplay feels solid, the characters are interesting and well-designed, the combo system is fun, and the single-player content made the console port a decent package.

UNIST looks to follow suit, offering a unique 2D fighting game experience on PS4 in 2018. You can expect a full TFG review of Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[st] later in 2018. Hopefully it doesn't arrive too Late. Anyway, later!
