Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[st]

The latest arcade update to Under Night In-Birth originally released in May 2015, resulting in one of the most absurdly named fighting games in recent times... Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[st]. It's also a bitch to type, and I'm not sure I've ever managed to type it once without having to hit backspace. If you're lucky enough not to work on a gaming website and don't have to type out this game's full name, you can conveniently dub the game "UNIST"... I envy you. Anyhow, the
"latest" version of Under Night In-Birth features quite a bit of new content over the original 2014-2015 port on PlayStation 3.

UNIEL's roster grows to 20... Looking forward to trying the newcomers!

The all new Chronicle mode unravels the mystery behind the events and characters of the mysterious "Hollow Night". Other new single-player modes include practical combat missions and a Tutorial mode to help new players learn the gameplay and combo systems. The updated roster now features 20 playable characters, including 4 newcomers: Phonon, Mika, Enkidu and Wagner. All of the classic console modes like Arcade, Practice, Gallery, etc. have returned from the previous console version.

Enkidu might be a descendant of Geese Howard. He looks pretty cool.

Dust off that old PS3 fightstick, because Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[st] supports most legacy controllers for the new PlayStation 4 version. UNIST also features cross-play support, allowing PS4 and PS3 players to fight against one another. While the PS4 and PS3 versions feature cross-play, the PS Vita version does not.

Traning Mode & MIssions should help you learn the ropes.

First Impression: I definitely enjoyed the PS3 version of Under Night In-Birth... which is saying a lot, since I'm usually not a huge fan of comparable anime-style fighting games. As I stated in my original review of Under Night In-Birth... this one's different. The pace of UNIEL's gameplay feels solid, the combo system is fun, the characters are interesting and well-designed, and the single-player content made the console port a decent package.

UNIST on PS4 looks to follow suit, offering an updated and (still) unique 2D fighting game experience. You can expect a full TFG review of Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[st] in the future. Hopefully it doesn't arrive too Late. Anyway, later!
