Capcom Director Reveals Pokemon-style Final Fight and The King of Fighters 15 on Gameboy

On Twitter, Capcom director and designer Takayuki Nakayama (Art Director of Street Fighter V) has frequently shared incredible and historical fighting game artwork from the depths of the darkest Capcom archives. It's not the Final Fight 4 / HD Remake we've all been clamoring for... (a game that is actually rumored but not confirmed) but Nakayama made a claim that he may or may not be developing a Pokemon-style Final Fight game for Nintendo Gameboy. The title of course includes the three heroes of the original Final Fight, Guy, Cody, and Haggar. Nakayama's screenshots also confirm baddies Hugo and Sodom.

Yes, this game has an awesome Art Style... and I would love to play it... if I liked Pokemon (which I don't). But I digress. Nakayama-san is either trolling us pretty hard with these artistic-looking screenshots (likely), or he is actually saying that he truly wanted to make this free-to-play April Fools game. Either way, we don't get to play it I don't think. Playable Capcom April Fools games are usually pretty great.

A rough translation of Nakayama's tweet: "Good evening. Due to various circumstances this year, we could not develop April Fool's Day (game?) really." He continued, "I was planning to make a game like an image (a lie)." So, are we getting a F2P game this year? Neco Drop 2 anyone?

Above, take a look at Takayuki Nakayama's take on a conveniently portable version of KOF 15, also for Gameboy... err, "I'm Not Boy." In any case, both newcomer protagonists of KOF15, who are often seen wearing way too many colors at once, Isla and Shun'ei, are playable in this port. Ironically (very ironically), Shun'ei and Isla don't have very much color in the Gameboy port. This might actually be an improvement over the PlayStation 5, Steam, Switch, and Xbox X|S versions of KOF15. Happy April Fools Day 2022.
