2XKO Development Ending in December

After launching 2XKO in January of this year, Riot Games made the sudden announcement that active development on 2XKO will end in December 2026. Ever since "Project L" was first announced way back in 2019, the League of Legends fighting game built by Radiant Entertainment alongside Riot's core development teams generated a lot of attention and built a dedicated esports presence at events like EVO. Here is the official announcement from Riot Games on .

Despite an enthusiastic core player base and a steady stream of updates—including the introduction of characters like Akali, Thresh, and a PvE mode titled The Climb—the game struggled to maintain the broad, long-term retention necessary for a live-service title of its scale. Following early staffing adjustments earlier in the year, Riot Games monitors engagement metrics closely, ultimately leading to a difficult reality about the game's commercial trajectory.

In an official developer announcement, Riot Games confirmed that active development on 2XKO will conclude in December 2026. While a wave of new content—including upcoming champions Lux and Samira—will still roll out through the remainder of the year, the studio has opted to transition the game into maintenance mode rather than continuing its prior seasonal roadmap. To honor the community that supported the vision, Riot is taking steps to make things right for early adopters. All champions are being unlocked for players, most cosmetics are being bundled, and the studio has initiated refunds.

Online servers will remain active past 2026, ensuring that fans can continue playing cross-platform matches and hosting independent tournaments into the future. You can read further details about 2XKO's development ending over on the official
Riot Games website. Keep it here on The Fighters Generation for more fighting game news.
