Marvel Tōkon August 21 Patch Drops Amid FGC Backlash Over PC Performance, Patch Notes

A new patch for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is now available on PC and PS5. The August 21, 2026 patch was designed to stabilize the competitive ecosystem, with the update delivering matchmaking enhancements for both Ranked and Casual, alongside crucial bug fixes for characters like Spider-Man, Carnage, and Peni Parker. Players can also expect general quality-of-life adjustments, including reworked dash/backdash inputs and fixes for persistent battle-result tracking.

While the comprehensive notes aim to polish the game's core mechanics, the timing comes on the heels of immense community friction that developers can no longer ignore. For weeks, the Fighting Game Community has voiced heavy frustration over the sub-par performance of the PC port, citing severe frame drops, heavy processing loads during intense matches, and frustrating audio-check stuttering.

This technical divide added fuel to an ongoing fire on social media, where players heavily criticized what many perceived as preferential treatment toward the PlayStation 5 ecosystem. Backlash peaked (reflected in the game's "Mixed" rating on Steam and recent mostly negative reviews) as fans accused platform partnerships of leaving PC competitors to fend for themselves with broken settings and subpar optimization, casting a shadow over the game's early competitive momentum. The latest update attempts to mend these fractures by addressing PC processing spikes alongside PS5-specific issues. Without further ado, here are the full official patch notes from Steam.

Patch Update - August 21, 2026

We’ve been working on a number of fixes and improvements aimed at reducing performance issues, improving stability, and addressing some specific problems.

-Fixed issues where the system would periodically experience heavy processing loads during matches.

PlayStation 5 Fixes

-Fixed an issue where online battle settings, lobby avatar customization settings, and team building settings would reset when restarting the game.

PS5 & PC

Gameplay

-Fixed an issue that allowed unintended follow-up attacks after landing Champion’s Cosmic Smash.

-Fixed an issue where Crossover would not activate if a button was being held while guarding.

-Fixed an issue where, under certain circumstances, an Assist could not be used again after a member change due to its cooldown not completing.

-Fixed an issue where the camera could move to a difficult-to-see position when Carnage’s Guillotine Axe hit an opponent at a high position.

-Updated the dash and backdash inputs (←← and →→) so they can only be performed after passing through the neutral position.

-Fixed an issue where Peni Parker’s Cyber Web and Assemble Assist Shooter could become invisible while retaining their hitboxes.

-Fixed an issue where the camera would not correctly switch when performing a Tōkon Finish in rounds other than the final round.

-Fixed an issue where, under certain circumstances, an opponent would remain in an attacked state and is unable to move during Spider-Man’s Web Slam.

Character Lessons

Green Goblin

Updated the Level Up Mission 1 and Level Up Mission 5 requirements so that the Skyscraper mid-combo objective can also be completed while riding the glider.

Deadpool

Fixed issues with the Level Up Mission 5 challenge “Burning Haymaker”:

Landing Foot Dive after a grounded Death From Above will no longer incorrectly clear the mission.

Landing Burning Haymaker while holding an Incendiary Grenade will now correctly clear the mission.

Episode Mode

-Fixed an issue where, under certain circumstances, a boss character would repeat the same actions after a timeout.

Arcadia Rumble

-Fixed an issue that could occasionally cause the multiplayer mode menu screen to freeze.

Open Lobby

-Fixed an issue where some sound effects could continue playing after leaving the Open Lobby.

-Fixed an issue where the network compatibility icon was not displayed correctly in Lobby Select.

Online Matches

-Made adjustments to improve matchmaking in both Ranked and Casual Matches.

-Fixed an issue where activities would not finish properly in Room Matches using certain rules.

Replay

-Fixed issues related to replays not saving or playing back correctly.

Ranking

-Fixed an issue where the Ranking screen could not scroll down under certain circumstances.

-Fixed an issue that displayed an incorrect phase number.

Trophies / Achievements

-Fixed an issue where the number of matches played was not properly counted toward unlocking “I Can Do This All Day.”

Additional Notes

Replay Data

Due to a fix related to the replay functionality, previous replay data will no longer be accessible or viewable after this update.

PC Patch Size

Changes and optimizations for the PC version have resulted in a larger patch size.

Shader Warm-Up

PC players should run and complete the shader warm-up before playing for a smoother and more optimal experience.

PS5 Initial Setup

New PS5 players may encounter a known progress issue where the game loops between selecting the game logo and system language during the initial boot. Please wait until the full game has finished downloading before trying again. The issue should then be resolved.

A permanent fix for this issue will be included in a future patch.

Thanks for your continued reports and feedback. These fixes are part of our ongoing work to improve performance, stability, and the overall experience.

Whether these targeted optimizations are enough to immediately win back the alienated PC player base remains to be seen, but it marks an important step forward. As an early adopter of the Steam version, I noticed an immediate performance improvement after this update! Here's a link back to our Character Guides video roundup for your convenience.
