daughter, Julia uses the same fighting style of her mother (Xin Yi Liu
He Quan and Baji Quan). When she was first introduced, Julia was a college
student studying archaeology. One day, she discovered that her native homeland
was in danger of being covered by an encroaching desert; this was brought
on by today's rapidly changing global ecosystem. Julia wanted to save her
home, and she began her research on ecosystem restoration. Julia joined
an advanced genetic research group led by Professor T that studied the
biological mechanism of reforestation. Professor T's research grant came
almost exclusively from G Corporation. In fact, G Corporation's supercomputers
located at their high security research center were being used for the
research. All their research data was stored on their file servers as well.
Julia was absorbed
in her daily research, waiting for the day when her research on ecosystem
restoration would be complete. When the research was completed, she would
save her home. Julia learned from Professor T that their research was on
hold indefinitely. The Mishima Zaibatsu attacked G Corporation's high security
research center and stole all research data from her project. Julia didn't
know a thing about G Corporation's secret research projects nor did she
care about them. Yet she knew that she had to retrieve her research data
from the Mishima Zaibatsu in order to save her home from becoming a desert
in a few years time. Julia searched the net to gather information regarding
the Mishima Zaibatsu. Her eyes lit up when she saw a web page announcing
The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4.
After recovering her
lost data, Julia Chang completed the research needed Reforestation program
and returned to her home of Arizona to meet with the individual helping
her to implement it. A much older woman who was a property owner of a large
area of Arizonian land waited for Julia upon her return, it was said that
this woman could hear the voices of spirits. This woman offered to help
Julia make her dreams of reforestation to become a reality, but before
they parted, the woman told Julia of an ill-fated prophecy,
"The Devil is sure
to return from Hell, should Jin Kazama and
Mishima ever cross paths. These two must not be allowed to fight."
Julia said. She was doubtful about the prophecy, but while on a flight
home she heard an announcement for the King of Iron Fist Tournament 6 had
been made. The woman's words were becoming a reality, and so Julia decided
to enter the tournament. In Tekken Tag Tournament 2, she appears as her
After retiring as
the masked fighter Jaycee (in TEKKEN 7), Julia concentrated fully on
expanding her reforestation efforts around the globe, far from the fighting
scene. But her project quickly needed money. Finding it difficult to secure
backers, Julia was forced to return to the fight far sooner than she had wanted.
Seeking one final fight, she made it her mission to beat Kazuya Mishima. Doing
so, she theorized, would gain the global attention, and subsequent funding, that
her project required.

series went 15 years into the future with Tekken 3, Namco decided to introduce
a new, younger
female Indian fighter in place of Michelle. Julia debuted as a pretty cool design,
her moveset building upon Michelle's core fighting style. In my opinion, Julia's design became a bit stale later in Tekken 4 & 5... her cheap elbow juggle
alone was enough to make people dislike fighting her with a passion. Thankfully, Julia's T6 design & moveset promoted players to use more interesting combos besides her infamous elbow juggle. ;) Smart moveset evolution by Namco, as usual.
Between T3-T6, Julia was a "sleeper" character in the series, if you ask me. She wasn't nearly as flashy or exciting as other Tekken characters. Sure enough, Namco seemingly agreed and gave Julia an entirely new design in Tekken Tag 2... now disguised as
the female wrestler,
Jaycee! Julia was the perfect character to don a new "persona" as a masked female wrestler. I though Jaycee was a really cool design / evolution of Julia. Later in TEKKEN 7, Julia became a "popular stream girl"
- another interesting evolution that made Julia more interesting. Namco did a great job keeping her design fresh!
