Capcom Begins Mystery Countdown

Between late Sunday evening and early Monday morning, Capcom unveiled a mystery countdown on the official Capcom Games website. At the time of @CapcomUSA's tweet, the countdown began at 6 days and 24 hours — concluding exactly 1 week from now. Curiously (very curiously), the end date seems to coincide with this weekend's Capcom Cup Capcom Pro Tour 2022 Season Finals online event (as the live event was canceled back in January) — with the Day 3 Grand Finals taking place Sunday night. For this reason... and this reason alone... maybe fighting game fans can cross their fingers for a big announcement courtesy of Capcom this weekend at Capcom Cup '22. I'm not one to count my chickens, but... 6 days and 24 hours? Just pointing out that... 2 + 4 = 6. That's a second six. What's going on here?!

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up too much with my insane math skills... I just wanted to point out the subliminal repeating numbers and CPT '21 finals dates. Coincidence? Or does all of this align for a reason!? We'll find out this weekend. Capcom already confirmed Street Fighter 6 is in development and that SFV newcomer Luke marks a new direction for the series. A SF6 reveal trailer at the CPT finals (which was supposed to be a live event) doesn't seem like too far a stretch!

[UPDATE] According to Capcom's website, the reveal will happen at 1am ET / 6am GMT on Monday, February 21st (or Sunday at 10pm PT). Numerous sources, such as GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, have claimed that Capcom will indeed be announcing something regarding Street Fighter 6.

[UPDATE #2] Capcom has officially announced Street Fighter 6!

If not Street Fighter 6... you know the drill, Capcom fans. New Marvel Vs. Capcom? Capcom Vs. SNK 3? Darkstalkers 4? Rival Schools 3? A remake? Let's not have too much fun speculating beforehand. It's only a 1-week wait. Just to clarify, there's no confirmation at this time that the
countdown is even fighting game-related. But the chances are looking more than decent!

The Capcom Pro Tour 2021 Season Final runs February 17 – 20, 2022. RobTV and Brian_Flead kick off the festivities with a special 5-vs-5 Street Fighter V: Champion Edition exhibition team tournament featuring top players from North America. You can find more information about the event at the CPT official site.

Be sure to stay tuned in this weekend on Fighters Generation for continued coverage of Capcom's February 2022 mystery countdown.
