King Lion / King Leo

The boss of Savage Reign, King Lion (Kage Shishioh) is responsible for holding the Battle of the Beast God tournament, wielding a sword called "The Sword of Leo." He appeared as King's Striker in King of Fighters 2000 and is also the boss of Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.

King Lion (blue) is the impersonator of King Leo (red) also known as Shin Shishioh. King Lion participates in the tournament on the latter's orders and uses the name King Lion as an element of intimidation. However, he really wants to take the city for himself and plans to overthrow the original crime lord. In his ending to the games, he takes over the futuristic city with an iron fist.

King Leo is a legendary fighter who got bored of the fighting circuit and silently disappeared from within the darkness of secrecy. Upon returning back to the public, King Leo decided to host and sponsor the Battle of the Beast God tournaments in the Savage Reign series to prove his strength to worthy opponents. To distract the competition, he also raised an impostor of himself named King Lion so that he can test out his challengers and see if they have what it takes to battle against him from within their own given time and accord. He was unstoppable until he was defeated by Hayate and later Jyazu.

Talk about coming back from the dead... King Lion was a potentially "overlooked" boss of one of SNK's most obscure fighting games. His original appearance wasn't terrible, but definitely "random" and not really "cool-looking"... (do you really need boxing gloves if you have a giant sword?). 0_o However, Lion's epic return in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum completely redefined the design. His new proportions, redrawn 2D sprite and artwork in NGBC leveled up the character design by 9000. In NGBC, he looks particularly pissed off and ready to bust someone up. (I'm guessing he looks so pissed since those games weren't very successful. Goes along with his storyline!) Glad he went with the fingerless gloves this time and put those boxing gloves away. lol.

King Lion is still an "odd" mix of boxer, super-hero, and futuristic knight... but somehow it comes together. He also has an epic 90's mullet-mohawk that will send you back to the token machine. ^o^ Worth mentioning, King Lion's striker appearance in KOF 2000 was also quite good... he was obviously in preparation for his comeback a few years later. >;) His NGBC redesign has stood the test of time and still looks great many years later. This is a perfect example of how to bring an "outdated" character back into the limelight with badass new details and depth.
