PART 3

Q & Robot Detective K

Q from Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is a mysterious fellow... shrouded in mystery... but we do know a fictional character he was inspired from. Robot Detective is a tokusatsu superhero TV series created by Shotaro Ishinomori and produced by Toei Company Ltd. The show was broadcast on Fuji TV from April 5th to September 27th, 1973. Q's mask and stylish jacket was definitely based on "K" from Robot Detective.

Inspector Gadget & Q

Not only their clothing attire, but the fact that they both seem to be made of metal brings this one to the table. If only Q had extending arms and and hat-copter.

K9999 & Tetsuo

SNK unapologetically based KOF 2001's K9999 off of Tetsuo from the iconic anime film, Akira (1988). The similarity is most apparent during K9999's super move (above) featuring his disgusting-yet-cool cybernetic flesh arm. SNK thought it was a good idea at the time of KOF 2001's release, but decided to remove the character from the series immediately after to avoid potential lawsuits from the creators of Akira.

King & Tiger Mask

Tiger Mask started out as a Japanese manga series in 1968. Many years later, the character has lived on, portrayed by various Japanese pro-wrestlers. While King wears a Jaguar mask, there are many elements of King's design heavily influenced by Tiger Mask. Just like in TEKKEN's storyline (with King II succeeding King I), the original Tiger Mask dies while saving a child and is succeeded by Tiger Mask 2. Tiger Mask also has a rival named Black Tiger (Armor King anyone?). Not only do they share storyline traits and visual appearances, but a handful of King's in-game moves are inspired by moves performed by Japanese pro-wrestlers who portrayed Tiger Mask in the ring.

Armor King & The Hound

When The Hound (Sandor Clegane) from Game of Thrones dons his badass helmet in the beginning of the series... he is basically Armor King. The actor who plays him (Rory McCann) stands 6' 6" in real life, with TEKKEN's iconic pro-wrestler standing 6' 4". To state the obvious, they're both giants, and badass, memorable characters in their respective series! You can also equip Armor King with a giant knight's sword in several TEKKEN games.

Star Fox & Rocket Raccoon

At first, most gamers might call Rocket Raccoon a rip-off of the Nintendo icon, Star Fox. In actuality, Rocket Raccoon is the elder of the two, first appearing in Marvel Preview #7 (1976)... with the first Star Fox game coming out in 1993. Were Nintendo's designers secretly inspired by Marvel's obscure space Raccoon? There's no way to tell, and they'd probably never admit to it... but I think it's possible.

Darun Mister & Wario

Darrun Mister is a huge wrestler from Street Fighter EX (actual based on real life wrestler, the Great Ganma). However, check out the similarities with Wario from Nintendo. It's all about the mustache in this case... well, maybe a little bit more than that actually. Wario actually seems to have a Middle Eastern accent in some instances, and if Wario did fight... I imagine he'd use some kind of wrestling.

Baki the Grappler & Gai Tendo

Gai Tendo is indeed loosely based on Baki from the manga/anime, Baki The Grappler. The similarities between them are obvious, notably the bright-ass orange hair and MMA fighting style. I'm also pretty certain that the SNK artist that drew the Card Fighters Clash artwork above (Falcoon), used that specific Baki The Grappler artwork above (on the left) as a reference. I'd imagine if you're not familiar with either of the characters  above... you probably can't even tell them apart.
