A former Seidan Guardsman
who became disillusioned with the oppressive nature of Seido, the Realm
of Order, Darrius leads a resistance movement which seeks to overthrow
Orderrealm's senate. He takes advantage of the strict laws of Orderrealm
to manipulate individuals into joining his movement. One tactic is to have
a Guardsman's family murdered, who will then retaliate and be expelled
from the Guard. They are then ripe for induction into the swelling ranks.
Others joined him of their own volition, such as the cleric of Chaos, Havik.
During Deception,
he hires fellow former guardsman Dairou to steal
the Seidan government's Declaration of Order, a scroll depicting its laws.
It is also speculated that Darrius hired Dairou to kill Hotaru.
Though not explicitly
stated, the similarities between Dairou's background and Darrius's method
of recruitment seems to imply that he was the one to order the killing
of Dairou's family.

Midway
development team's design
strategy for Darrius: "Take Morpheus from the Matrix, slap on a MK-ish / ninja outfit (be sure not to forget the loincloth), throw in 30 or so random moves (and borrow some animations from other
characters), stick some cool-looking blades on his arms aaaaand... new Mortal Kombat
character sure to move copies!" ^o^
At first glance, Darrius isn't a terrible MK
design, but after using him in the game, it's pretty obvious that the person who came up with this design spent a whole 5 minutes doing so. His fighting style
isn't defined and seems "thrown together" like most of the new
designs from the infamous, terrible "3D era" of PS2 Mortal Kombat games. To his credit, Darrius's 2nd player outfit isn't too bad... and he's a little better than some of the other moronic designs from
Deception and Armageddon. However, compared to other "new" fighting game
characters of the era that actually mattered... Darrius is a below average design.
