Nicotine Caffeine

Nicotine is a Buddhist monk, the teacher of Haohmaru and Genjuro, and is the grandfather of Gaira. He currently stays at a temple called Koka-In. Thirty years ago, he was a highly skilled swordsman who hunted many demons of the night. He and his friend Kuroko challenged Mizuki but was defeated. Ever since then, he became a monk. He expelled Genjuro due to the fact that his soul was too dark. When he heard from Haohmaru that he was attacked by demons, he left his temple to defeat Mizuki. After Mizuki was defeated, he settled back into his temple. A year later, a baby with red eyes was entrusted to him and Haohmaru.

Nicotine is an interesting old man. He debuted in SS2 as a very unique fighting game character. He's got a cool, calm demeanor... but he gets serious when it's time to fight. He also has a comical side to his personality, which rounds him out as a design. After SS2, he went missing for many years (not appearing in any other series either). Needless to say, it was great to see him finally return in SS6, but I was kind of disappointed to see that they didn't update his sprite at all... Over 4 sequels later and you'd think they'd give the poor guy a new sprite. lol. Nonetheless, his classic animations are still pretty damn entertaining to this day.

On a side note: If you've seen the popular anime movie Ninja Scroll, you'll immediately recognize a visual similarity with one of the characters in the movie. The question is... Who came first? Both Samurai Shodown 2 and Ninja Scroll were released in 1994..... Interesting.
