BIO:

The main protagonist of the storyline of Samurai Shodown 64, Asura fell in love with Shiki and they had one daughter (Mikoto). He is in a long-running conflict with Yuga, who wreaks havoc in order to bring about "the unification of this world and the Netherworld". Yuga imprisoned Asura in the Netherworld and he subsequently escapes when it is defeated during the events of Samurai Shodown 64. When he confronts Yuga, his clone, Shadow Asura, assists him in slaying the fiend. They fuse themselves together so that his clone could survive.

Later, in Samurai Shodown: Warriors Rage, Asura is revealed to be a shade of the real Asura. Yuda was the product of Asura merging with "Shadow Asura". His clone was the one who retained the original's memories; this Asura only kept the original's abilities and his animosity for Yuga.

I love this design. Like most people in the West, I never got around to playing the SS64 games. Even so, I still knew of Asura's design and thought he was badass and fitting for the series. Asura is kind of like an evil samurai with summoning abilities mixed with Heavy Metal / Marilyn Manson. >:) Asura also makes a badass appearance in the opening scene for Samurai Shodown Asura Zanmaden OVA (for that fight scene along, a MUST WATCH for any Samurai Shodown / SNK fan).

Thankfully, SNK made Asura playable in NEOGEO Battle Coliseum, finally giving fans a chance to use this badass character in a video game. Asura's 2D incarnation is incredibly well done in NGBC and actually some of SNK's best 2D animation / spritework ever made, in my opinion. Although his fighting style in NGBC can seem a bit "cheap" at times, Asura definitely has style and cool moves that hit hard. I'm actually very surprised SNK didn't bring back Asura in Samurai Shodown (2019). Missed opportunity SNK!
