BIO:

Before the arrival of the First Host of the Celestials, Shuma-Gorath ruled the Earth and commanded human sacrifice, until the time-traveling sorcerer Sise-Neg banished him. He was able to return as a god during the Hyborian Age to slaughter those who seek his favor. Eventually, the power of Crom imprisoned him within a mountain. However, in his imprisonment he could interact with Conan the Barbarian, Kulan Gath, and many others, before Crom banished him back to his home dimension.

When Shuma-Gorath tried to return to Earth through the mind of the heroic sorcerer the Ancient One, he forced Doctor Strange to kill his master to prevent the powerful creature from arriving on Earth. Years later, Dr. Strange was forced to destroy the talismans keeping the chaos demons at bay, to keep them from falling into the hands of an evil sorcerer. Dr. Strange was then forced to travel to Shuma-Gorath's dimension and fight it there to prevent the demons from invading Earth. To do so, Strange absorbed the chaos magic into himself, gaining enough power to destroy Shuma-Gorath. However, he started to transform into a new Shuma-Gorath himself as a result, so he committed suicide to prevent that from happening. An ally of Strange was able to purify him on his way back to the living. Shuma-Gorath resurrected himself not long after from the remnants of the chaos magic.

Shuma-Gorath was later summoned to Earth by the sorcerer Nicholas Scratch, who offered his services in return for "(his) life and Barbados". However, the demon was driven back by the combined efforts of the Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, the Salem's Seven, and Diablo.

Shuma-Gorath is a very obscure Marvel character. I hadn't even heard of him before his appearance in Marvel Super Heroes. For some odd reason, Team Capcom thought Shuma would go over well in a 2D fighting game and, for the most part, they were right. Shuma definitely is an original fighting game character in more ways than one, presenting an interesting and well-animated moveset.

His cool 2D animations translated amazingly well to MVC3, and he simply looks awesome in MVC3's 3D graphics engine. I think they could've picked a better Marvel character to put in MVC3, but at least Shuma-Gorath offers some distinct variety and a fan service to those who enjoyed using him in the earlier VS Series titles. On a side note, I loved his voice in the earlier games... his MVC3 voice is different, but still pretty cool.
