GENERAL/STORY:
Kage-Maru (meaning
"perfect shadow") uses Hagakure-ryu Ju-Jutsu as his fighting style. He
was born in the village of Hagakure. "Kage-Maru" is the name given to
members of the Hagakure clan who work in secret in the shadows of society. His
birthright was to become the tenth-generation Kage-Maru. His father, the
ninth-generation Kage-Maru, taught him the fearsome Hagakure fighting technique.
One day, his mother, the
eighth-generation Tsukikage, was kidnapped by J6 (judgement6). She was brain
washed and constantly having cybernetic improvements applied, she became a
cyborg, immune to feeling. Several years later, the village of Hagakure was
attacked by her, now known as Dural.
Kage-Maru and his father were out fishing, but quickly returned when they saw
the blazing village. They were too late, however, and the village was destroyed.
Kage-Maru's father fell by a bullet from the mystery group and the next morning,
Kage-Maru salvaged a keepsake from his father, donned his costume, and embarked
on a journey to prepare himself to take vengeance on those who spilled his
father's blood.

REVIEW:
He's been the
token
ninja for the series since day one, and has of course developed nicely over the
span of nine games. Even though some people (including me) might say he looks
like "any other generic ninja design" (and originally he kinda was),
he did however, acquire some cool alternate outfits in the later of the series
and also has some badass customization items in VF4-VF5 which actually help his
visual design.
He's got a memorable fighting style, which is also the strength of his
design. My favorite move of his still has to be his jumping flying headbutt to a
downed opponent... That just never gets old to me.
His story is on the lame side, and he doesn't have much personality, but in the
end he does his series justice, as most fighting game ninjas do... Ninjas are
usually always cool fighting game characters... Unless, of course, they're from Naruto.
Ouch.
